C2C day 3 – Rosthwaite to Grasmere – 15 km

Butharlyp Howe Youth Hostel where we stayed - once a stately home - beautiful inside

A relatively short day with no major ascents, just a steady gentle uphill followed by some up and down from one crag to another as we took the high route alternative. With the sun shining and the weather clear it would have been silly to just walk down the valley. A lovely day's walking with great views especially on the descent to Grasmere. Grasmere is the home of William Wordsworth and it would be great to be here in the Spring when the daffodils are in full bloom. You surely remember his lovely poem: “Daffodils”

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vale and hills
When all at once I saw a crowd
A host of golden daffodils
Beside the lake, beneath the trees
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze

(That's all I can remember but the other verses are charming too).

Enjoying this site. Almost as good as being there.
Was trying to spot James Herriot, but only found Sue!
